Biography

Abigail Reese is a doctoral student in health policy at the UNM College of Nursing, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nursing and Health Policy Collaborative Fellow. She is a Certified Nurse-Midwife with extensive clinical and teaching experience in diverse practice settings.Her work has focused on providing full-scope midwifery care to underserved women in the hospital, community and home. In addition, Abby has worked in health policy at the state level in New Mexico and in Vermont, where she also served as the coordinator of a federal women' health grant for a Community Center of Excellence in Women's Health.

Abby has an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Latin American Studies from Princeton University, and a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the Yale School of Nursing. She has a strong commitment to health equity and to improving reproductive health outcomes for underserved women. Her current research interests include the integration of community based participatory research with policy as a strategy for including marginalized voices in policy formation and advocacy. In particular, she is focused on efforts to address the reproductive health needs and priorities of street-involved women and undocumented immigrants.
